Advanced commands:
After your dog or puppy has learned the 5 basic commands, there are 3 more advanced commands. Let me start by saying that there is always room for improvement when it comes to training. But as I had said in another Blog Remember
Key notes
- Leave it
- place
- Wait
“Leave it” is a good command that helps you keep them safe and healthy. especially if they would rather chew that dog house into pieces instead of come jump on you for their food like my German Shepard Athena did. Leave it, means to turn or move away from what you are looking at or destroying.
“Place” has saved Athena so many times, that it’s not even funny. Before I taught Athena “Place” she would run everywhere especially when I would go outside she would escape. Let me just tell you that was a great cardio workout. “Place” is where they’re sitting or laying in their doggy bed or cot and waiting for you to release them with their cue word like “yes” or “Okay”.
Now just remember when teaching your dog or puppy these new commands to have patience. They may not get it on the first try, they may not understand what you’re trying to tell them.
“Wait” is a command that means stay where you are and wait for me to tell you what to do, temporarily. “Wait” is different than “Stay” which means you are to stay there permanently till I give you the cue word. I do have to admit Athena still has trouble with this one. Which is okay because there is always room for improvement. I am cooking up step-by-step videos for training that go more into what we go over. Let me know if anybody has any questions.
